The bird without a name.

I don't remember what kind of bird this was, and its going to bug me for a long time! If you know what it is please let me know. I do know that it went from tree to tree searching for little birds/ eggs to eat. It was pretty acrobatic in how it moves. Sometimes it was hanging upside down or jumping/ gliding from branch to branch with ease.

African landscape // 1

An African landscape... now where is that damn Leopard!?!

Love hurts!

I didn't notice the wound on this guys neck until i looked at the pictures at home. Must have a rough night last night and could also be why the female is across the river hiding. Everybody hurts... sometimes.

Love lust.

We ran into this Hyena on our very first Safari. He stopped to smell us a couple of times but all he really cared about was the female across the river. He was absolutely determined to figure out how to get to her.

Lions, Tigers and beers? oh my!

We were on the way to the bush camp when I took this picture. It was literally pitch black so i had put the camera away for the night. Since we had to stop for a bit, because she didn't move out of our way, I got a chance to take a few pics. The scary part was the fact that me and Kumbo were peeing behind the jeep literally minutes before we turned the corner to see this female lion blocking our way. It took a few minutes for use to notice that we were surrounded by the pride. This picture isn't the greatest but because of the experience it is one of my favourites. Simply an amazing experience but whose idea was it to give us beer!

Down by the river.

I took this picture through the window of the van as we drove across the Mfuwe River. I had to crop a bit of the sides because the window frame got in the way but over all I was happy i got a decent shot.

Sand Crab study // part 2

These tiny little guys ranged from about the size of a dime to the size of a quarter. They were really hard to shoot because they scurried back into their holes if they felt or saw the slightest bit of movement. I had to sit very still for sometimes 5-10 mins while I held the camera and waited for them to come out of their holes. Unfortunately, as soon as I took the picture they often ran back into their holes and i had to wait all over again.

Sand crab study // part 1

Sand crabs hanging out on the beach in Zanzibar. I don't think i noticed these little critters until a few days into our stay. They are very well camouflaged and almost impossible to see unless you know they are there.

It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye.

This lady taking her "pegs" into the water to help catch the seaweed. The guy is tying his shoes just before his daily fishing excursion.

You are not a local!

You might be able to trick the average tourist by dressing like the locals but I saw you come out of the resort beside us and you don't even speak Swahili! Nice try though. At least you don't stick out like a sore thumb like I do.

Go get em buddy!

Most people hate getting up and going to go to work everyday but this guys was as happy as a clam.

I took a a bunch of people shot on the beach alone and over time I started to notice the limitations this lens has. or perhaps its user error? Either way I wish I could have gotten a sharper subject in this one.

Lady in purple.

A lady walking on the beach on Zanzibar. It was very bright outside when i was taking this picture so i wish i took advantage of being able to use a higher shutter speed so i could "freeze" the subject better.

Hard days work!

This ladies crop was right in front of our hut at the Sunshine Hotel. After picking the seaweed out of the ocean she would sit and bundle it before hanging it in one of the alleyways beside the resort. She would do this everyday.

RGB.

Three ladies working their crops in the indian ocean. I can't express how beautiful and colourful their clothes were. ISO Speed = 1600!!?!? what was i thinking?

The Commuter.

Who wouldn't want the Indian Ocean to be a part of their commute? Seriously! Btw, it's not easy to ride a bike on the sand. Good on this guy!

The Crow.

This guy was quite the show off. You can literally see him sticking his nose up at us in this pic. Actually, to be fair, i think he might be smelling for food. But what do i know? I'm a photographer not a zoologist! Actually, i'm not even technically a photographer.

White Gerber Daisy Study.

More low light shots testing my steadiness. These pictures are also from my first time using my macro lens. I was testing the built in flash capabilities at the same time, which i don't think i have used very often since. I wish they were more in focus but what can you do. I guess you have to start somewhere.

Lily Stamen Study.

This is some of the very first macro pictures i took. I actually find the subject more interesting than the photos themselves, if that makes sense. I was testing to see how shallow i could get the depth of field. I was indoors with low light so it would have been good to have had a tripod and/ or flash handy.

Simply Vervet.

A Vervet monkey chilling on the patio. I had a lot of fun taking pictures of these little guys. Although they were very cautious of us they were not afraid. I was able to get a lot of good shots because they let me get very close before they would walk away. Expect to see more pictures of these super cute "Chlorocebus pygerythrus ", Super fun!

Get out of the bush Waterbuck!

Stop pretending to be someone you're not Waterbuck! Don't be ashamed of what you are and get down by the river. You're not fooling anyone! And stop staring, it's rude!!!

Who the what?

I'm not sure what this is but i thought it would make a nice picture. I was shooting this in the shadow of the tree so I had a little bit of trouble capturing the bright colours.

Yellow flower.

This flower was growing off a tree in Lusaka. Surprisingly we did not come across that many wild flowers in Zambia. Maybe it was the time of year we went?

Julia's favourite.

I'm posting this one for Julia as it was her favourite picture from the long weekend.

A Little White Fish sunset.

Sitting on the party boat watching the sunset over Little White Fish!

A Victory kiss.

A victory Kiss after a game of bocci ball. Well, i don't think they actually won but i wasn't going to tell them that.

Have a seat!

A chair looking out onto Little white Fish.

Daisy if you do!

Just stopping to smell the daisies.

Just a daisy I guess.

Just a daisy. @ C.D. cottage.
